Larry Spaeth came to McHenry County, in 2001, after his wife Cynthia began teaching special education at Harvard High School in 2000.
Together Larry and Cynthia have fostered numerous children and in addition to their two biological children, Heather and Geoffrey, they adopted Victoria and Daniel, a special needs child, with Fragile X Syndrome which causes him to be mentally challenged, with Autistic behaviors.
Larry is a lifelong Roman Catholic who currently attends St. Benedict's in Fontana, Wisconsin and occasionally sings with their choir.
Larry's commitment to service grew with his dedication to the Lions Clubs International Organization. Lions motto is We Serve. Larry has held all offices in his local club (Schaumburg-Hoffman) and stepped up to serve on the District Cabinet in 1991, a position he still holds. Larry serves as District Lions Disaster Alert Chair and Constitution and By-Laws Chair. Larry also is State Fund Raising Chair for the Lions of Illinois Foundation.
Larry has a background in human resources. He was employed by ATT, TRW and Welch Foods until, with two partners, he started a small business; Aunt Mary's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shoppe in Golf Mill, Niles, Illinois. Larry was a Real Estate agent for seven (7) years in the Schaumburg and Bartlett, Illinois area. Larry was a Letter Carrier, with the USPS for 26+ years in the Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates area in Illinois until his retirement. He belongs to the N,A,L,C, Branch 825 postal union. During employment, he acted as a Shop Steward for many years.
Both Cynthia and Larry retired in December of 2016. Larry now feels the need to continue his service to the community working towards political leadership to encourage a better community. Larry is passionate about the issues he has identified in his campaign, and will be a tireless member of the McHenry County Board to address them.
