1) What are the three most important actions the County Board can take to make McHenry County a better place to live and do business?
Infrastructure must continue to be a top priority. Supporting the projects on the Transportation Priority List of the McHenry County Council of Governments is critical to the economy of McHenry County. However, the infrastructure needs of the farmers must also be given priority. We must invest in the infrastructure of tomorrow. Fiber optic cable throughout the entire county. This would provide for true high speed Internet. You cannot expect industry to be attracted to an area who's infrastructure is lagging behind.
Property Taxes must be reduced if we are going to retain the workforce necessary for continued economic growth. This will necessitate a collaborative approach addressing the legislative agenda, in Springfield that will put the emphasis on the State, providing over 50% of School funding in Illinois. This would allow significant relief as school funding amounts to approximately 70% of most property tax bills in McHenry County.
Water resources in McHenry County must be protected. This needs to be a major consideration in any and all residential and commercial growth within the county. We have been a leader in this area for several decades and we must continue to provide leadership on this isssue. There needs to be a comprehensive review of McHenry County's efforts and this needs to remain one of its top priorities.
